Rare Cancer Areas of Focus

Rare Cancer Expertise

Expertise in Uncommon Skin Cancers: Melanoma

Dr Wong’s experience in melanoma dates back to his medical oncology training in Australia. During this period, he contributed to research examining prognostic factors in patients with stage IV melanoma through the Victorian Melanoma Service.

The study evaluated the relationship between characteristics of the primary melanoma and survival following metastatic disease and was subsequently published in the American Journal of Clinical Oncology.

Expertise in Neuroendocrine Tumours (NETs)

Dr Wong also has clinical experience in the management of neuroendocrine tumours (NETs), a diverse group of uncommon cancers that can arise in different parts of the body. Treatment decisions for NETs can depend on factors including the site of origin, tumour biology, stage and individual patient circumstances.

What Dr Wong Wants Patients to Know

Navigating a rare cancer diagnosis can be challenging, as patients frequently encounter a lack of accessible online resources and external validation regarding their treatment paths. I advise patients to consult closely with dedicated specialists who stay abreast of emerging therapies. Leveraging international patient advocacy networks can also empower patients with shared experiences to guide their clinical conversations.

Dr Wong's Approach to Rare Cancer Care

Rare cancer care demands a highly individualised approach. I emphasise seamless collaboration with a broader network of healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive, holistic treatment. This ensures that care strategies evolve alongside the latest scientific breakthroughs and a deepening understanding of rare malignancies.

Dr Wong's Broader Oncology Experience

Dr Wong also treats a broad range of cancers in addition to the rare cancer areas highlighted on this page. His broader oncology experience includes prostate, kidney, bladder, upper gastrointestinal and lung cancers.
